MCPD District 2 builds relationships one sip at a time

Montgomery County Police Department District 2 hosted another Coffee with a Cop event today — this time at Starbucks in Potomac. D2 holds these throughout the year at coffee shops, ice-cream parlors, and other relaxed “third spaces” where people gather.

It’s savvy outreach that signals officers aren’t just visible when something goes wrong — they’re part of our community, showing up in the same everyday places we go. Over time, those low-stakes conversations build relationships and trust among residents, businesses, and the police that matter when the stakes are high.

The officers seemed to enjoy it, too. Today they were smiling faces, trying their hand at barista duty, and leaning into easy conversations in a space where people wanted to linger and connect.

That attitude matters — it reflects a department that understands connection is the foundation of effectiveness. And, coffee by coffee, they’re building trust that lasts.
